Try
a self paddling trip along the coast in
one of the 1 or 2 seater sea-going canoes that are
available from local shops along the beaches and
at most resorts. Rental is possible at a small fee
per hour, half-day or full-day.
White
sandy beaches, clear aquamarine waters
and mangrove ecosystems, all come together in this
magical area that has to be seen. Be aware that
some islands look close by, but need more than one
hour to be reached. Plan a longer trip carefully
and remember that you might have to return on the
same day. Ask the locals for the current weather
conditions and take some bottles of water with
you.
Mangrove
forests cover the south of Koh Chang, namely
Bang Bao Bay and Salak Phet Bay. If you are staying
there, a paddle through the exciting world of the
mangrove forest
should be on your list. This unusual biosphere is
limited to the tropics and exists as a nursery or
permanent living area for numerous animals and therefore
is of important ecological significance. Make sure
to remember every turn you have taken on the way
in to make sure you will find the way out. Every
corner looks the same.
